The image above reminds us of the Peraliya train disaster from the 26 December 2004 tsunami.
The beach photograph in the banner is that of the Unawatuna beach near Galle, in Sri Lanka. It's reputed to be one of the best beaches in the world--I don't know about that, but it is tops on my list.
The unfortunate thing, it was wiped out by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. Imagine waves coming in at the height of the trees.
Sometimes I would take the train to Galle on the 26th of December; that train got hit and around 1500 passengers died when the tsunami waves struck, in three successive blows.
